Photo of the Week: A faceless childhood

The display window of a children's clothing store in NYC, February 2009.  I can't remember what it was called.  I find mannequins to be creepy in general, but mannequins of children-- in particular faceless mannequins of children-- now that takes it to a new level.  I can't imagine why anyone would think this is a good idea?

Urban Layers (NYC)

I'm not going to say a lot about these two photos; I think the title pretty much states what I was trying to do here (and what I try to do with a lot of my urban photography).  Both of these were taken in Brooklyn.  The bottom photo is the Henry Ward Beecher Statue in Columbus Park.  The figure photographed in this shot depicts an African-American girl placing a palm branch at Henry Ward Beecher's feet (he was a famous abolitionist).

Photo of the Week: Stock Exchange

The New York Stock Exchange, February 2009.  I was looking south from the intersection of Broad and Wall Street.  This is possibly the beginning of a new series, which I'm tentatively calling TTLCD: "Through The LCD".  Also known as the ultimate gimmick series.

Nikon D90 w/ 16-85mm lens, 1/160sec at f4.8, ISO400.  The 16-85 isn't generally the best lens for doing shallow depth of field work, but the results in this case aren't bad at all.  The foreground camera is a Canon A590.

Mannahatta

I spent a few days in New York last week, my second favorite American city.  I'll be slowly posting photos from this trip over the next couple of months, interspersed with some new Chicago shots.

This particular photo is from the Fulton Ferry landing in Brooklyn.  I've created a black and white version as well:
