ice crusher (plus video!)

ice crusher

The ice was doing weird things last Friday along the lakefront.  It had broken up into pieces which resembled panes of glass and was being steadily pushed into the shore and crushed.  This is off the Montrose Ave pier.  I didn't think a photo would do this justice so I made an attempt to record some video as well (if for no other reason than to capture the sound this was making):

Photo Details: Nikon D7000 with 16-85mm lens, 1/400sec at f8, ISO400.

Video Details: I have no idea.  This was the first time I attempted to use the video function on my D7000.  There's a red button on the back.  I pushed it.

I realize it's not related, but ice-related. :) Frazil Ice in Yosemite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9V9p4mFEYXc

Thanks, phule. I really enjoyed that video. I thought it was interesting that they described the Frazil Ice as a "giant slurpie machine". One of my early ideas for this photo was that it reminded me of a snow cone machine.

Very cool! Thanks for the video; was wondering what that was like in real person. Now I can see it without venturing out in the frigid cold (no way I'm doing that again any time soon).

As I said on flickr, Andre, you're a brave man. It was much warmer on this day (probably in the mid 20s) than the day you went out there.
